Happy Two Years!

It is hard to believe, but two years ago our two families landed in a foreign country with LOTS of suitcases, 2 little girls, and a vision for what God had called us to. We had many people praying for us, two wonderful supporting churches behind us, and very little idea of what was ahead. Here we are two years ago...

And a little glimpse of what our girls looked like...

Now here we are two years later. I will be reflecting on these 2 years in a journal post, but for now I just wanted to post our latest picture of the team (taken in June). See how we have grown?

And look at our girls now! They make pretty good big sisters. :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY teamAREQUIPA!!!

The Hendersons! If you do not know the Henderson Family you are missing out. Tim, Denise, and their family hold a very special place in our heart. First of all, before I was even in this picture, Tim played a significant role in Greg's formation as a Christian and man. He was a father-figure when Greg had none, and Greg holds him in the highest regard. He is the youth minister at Shiloh (one of our supporting churches). Kyle and Larissa were also in that same youth group with Greg. Whenever I would come home with Greg to Tyler we always spent a significant amount of time at the Hendersons. I learned very quickly that when I married Greg, I would become part of that "family." Tim counseled us before our marriage, and he drove all the way to my hometown to marry us.
When we spent our 6 months with Shiloh in Tyler the Hendersons offered for us to stay with them. Greg didn't hesitate. We lived with them for 6 months and loved every minute of it. I cherish those 6 months because I was able to cultivate a stronger relationship with them. Tim and Denise have 5 beautiful children. During our time there Hannah and Noah were still in the house. Noah LOVED Ana. He was the best baby-sitter and we took lots of video of the two of them together. Ana had many firsts in their home including crawling. We have so many great memories of our time there. One thing we always loved doing was staying up late talking over coffee (there was always a fresh batch in the kitchen). We feel very confident going to Tim and Denise for any "parental wisdom" if we ever need it.
The Hendersons arrive tomorrow morning and are going to stay for 2 weeks. They are the first Shiloh visitors to come on behalf of the church. We are excited for them to take a positive report home to our Shiloh family. Here are a few pictures of our time with them way back in the day. I know I will not believe how much Noah has grown when I see him!

Goings on:
Been working on our team strategy lately. It's been nice finally to synthesize things that have been in my head for years.
Rereading Jordan's Wheel of Time series at nights. Sometimes it feels like I'm breaking the rules by not reading more serious stuff, but I like brain candy too much to care.
Have fully made the transition to black coffee. I still like a good latte, but for the daily grind (pun intended), it's black and strong.
Been working in the garden a lot. Weeds got out of control while I was recovering from wisdom teeth surgery. Will be a ton of produce if I can keep it going.
Finally made first batch of deer jerkey. It's got good flavor, but I dried it slightly too long. The thicker pieces are pretty good.
Ana stood by herself for a long time last night at VBS and clapped and "danced." She is due to walk soon, I think. Megan got the pool up to snuff, so Ana has been swimming and likes it.
Been helping with VBS. Your guess is as good as mine.
Apparently it's a good summer for snakes. We caught a four foot rat snake at the house--snooping for bird nests. Saw a three foot black racer jet accross the driveway the other day.
Planning to try to build a bunkbed for Nathan and Jenny. Should be fun.
Registered for the Christian Scholars Conference at Lipscomb this year. Should be interesting. Will not get to attend World Convention (Stone-Campbell unity thing). What's up with a $200 dollar registration fee anyway?
