Tanta WaWa

Today is All Saints Day. One neat thing about our relationship to the Pinto family is that they are able to teach us alot about their culture. Tonight, they brought the traditional food of November to our Bible Study--tanta wawa (Quechua for "bread baby"). The bread babies are offered as gifts on All Saints Day and can be found in different shapes and sizes. If you look closely at the picture, you can see the face of the baby. The bread is sweet and this particular wawa is stuffed with manjar. I will have to say that it was delicious. As Greg said tonight when asking for another piece, "Be sure to put that extra "goo" (manjar--which is alot like a creamy caramel type filling) on that." The bakeries here sell the tanta wawa throughout the month of November. This was a new cultural experience for us.
